Frequently Asked Questions

58 square miles.

I-35 bounds the west side, Waterloo Road bounds the south side, Pottawatomie Road and Pottawatomie County bound the east side, and the north side isn't a straight line but it goes at far north as Seward Road.

Station 1 is located on the northwest corner of Charter Oak and Douglas. It was built in 2018.

Guthrie Central at the Guthrie Police Department is responsible for dispatching most of the fire departments in Logan County - including Woodcrest. When you call 911 in Logan County you will be routed to Guthrie Central.

Short answer - all the time.

13 Fire Departments serve Logan County. Most of them are staffed completely by volunteers. No single agency is able to handle every incident in their district on their own all the time.

Woodcrest also holds reciprocal automatic aid agreements with Oak Cliff and Sooner Fire Departments for most fire incidents.

That depends on the location of your property. (See map at top)

Woodcrest is divided into 2 areas that are governed by different Titles of Oklahoma state law.

  • The west side is governed by Title 19. Fire protection in this area is funded by ad valorem property taxes. You can see the breakdown for how much of your property takes are allocated to fire protection in your statement from the County Tax Assessor.
  • The east side is governed by Title 18. Fire protection in this area is funded by purchasing yearly memberships.

Absolutely not. Woodcrest personnel do not check membership status to determine whether to respond to incidents.

Two ways:

  1. County burn bans enacted by the Logan County Board of Commissioners
  2. State burn bans enacted by the Governor

Both methods are governed by State Law which specifies criteria for enacting the ban.

Most of the time, yes. We ask that you do a few things to reduce the risk of losing control of your burn:

  1. Check Woodcrest is not under a burn ban via the OK Forestry Service or Woodcrest's Facebook Account. Controlled burning while a burn ban is in effect is illegal.
  2. Check fire conditions. We obviously recommend against burning if fire danger is high (high winds or low humidity).
  3. Choose a location that is free of nearby vegetation.
  4. Have a working source of water ready to go in case your burn starts to spread.
  5. Inform Guthrie Central when and where you will burn. 405-282-3535 (Non Emergency). Your neighbors or passer-bys might see your fire and not know you are burning on purpose. Our dispatchers can more effectively dispatch us if they know about your controlled burn.
  6. Attend your burn while it is burning.

Woodcrest firefighters are required to obtain at least an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) medical license within their first year.

Guthrie Fire Department is the medical transport agency for the Woodcrest Fire District. When you call 911 and need an ambulance, Guthrie Central will dispatch an ambulance from Guthrie and at the same time dispatch Woodcrest primarily because Woodcrest personnel are closer to residents in the District. This has at least 2 advantages:

  1. Faster basic life support - Woodcrest personnel help stabilize critical patients until Guthrie arrives on scene.
  2. Faster on-scene time - Woodcrest helps shorten on-scene time by collecting patient information and vital signs before Guthrie arrives. If you need to go to the hospital we can help get you there faster.

That's probably the training ambulance Heartland Medical Direction uses to train medics all over Oklahoma. It is not equipped to transport real patients.

Great! And no. We'll teach you everything you need to know.
